Thank You Mr. Gordon. Now, Vote Before The Election!

Representative Gordon,
Thank you for your stance against this most serious threat to the sovergeignty of America.

Now, do not compromise on this sell-out Senate bill. Insist on bringing it to a vote before the election.

If it is delayed beyond November I and the other voters in your district will take it as a yes vote for this Senate sell-out and we will vote accordingly.

Mr. David Bess
Murfreesboro, TN.

Dear David,

Thank you for contacting me about immigration reform. Hearing from you helps
me better represent Middle Tennessee.

Illegal immigration is one of the most serious problems currently facing our nation
and your input on this matter is invaluable to me. As you probably know, on May 25, the Senate passed its immigration reform bill, S. 2611. I share the concerns of many
Middle Tennesseans about the approach that the Senate has taken. One of the most
contentious proposals in the Senate bill is a plan that would provide a path to
citizenship, which I believe is in effect an amnesty, for many of the 11 million illegal aliens currently in the U.S. I believe that amnesty sends the wrong message. Instead of deterring illegal immigration, amnesty would only add to the problem by encouraging more people to cross our borders illegally in
hopes of someday receiving amnesty themselves.

I believe that the House of Representative's immigration, which I supported and which passed the House in December, takes a better approach to dealing with our immigration problems. The House bill, H.R. 4437, did not include any kind of amnesty or guest worker program. Rather this bill provides for strengthened enforcement of our immigration laws and enhanced border security. The bill stiffens penalties for a variety of immigration law violations and cracks down on employers who hire illegal aliens and undercut American workers. The House and Senate must now meet
in conference committee to work out the differences between their bills.

In addition to the House immigration bill, I am also supporting a variety of
other measures to address the problems in our immigration system and along our
borders. Bills I am co-sponsoring include:
*H.R. 4313, the TRUE Enforcement and Border Security Act, provides for the
construction of a border fence along the entire U.S. / Mexico border;
*H.R. 4032 expands the use of expedited removal proceedings for illegal aliens
detained throughout the entire country (currently expedited removal is only
utilized for illegal aliens detained within 100 miles of the U.S. border) and
prohibits banks from providing mortgages to illegal aliens;
*H.R. 780 provides funding for a 20 percent increase in the number of border
patrol agents each year from 2006 through 2010; and,
*H.R. 4816, the Border Tunnel and Underground Smuggling Prevention Act,
criminalizes the construction of border tunnels and increases the penalties for
individuals who use border tunnels. I also voted for an amendment to the FY07
Defense Authorization bill which will allow the military to assist DHS with
border security.

Please know that I am listening closely to the views of Middle Tennesseans on this
matter and I am working hard to curb the rising number of people that enter our
country illegally each year at a high cost to American citizens. Rest assured that as
this debate continues, I will work to ensure that any legislation passed by Congress is right for our country and effectively addresses this serious problem without
encouraging more illegal immigration.

Stay in touch,
/s
BART GORDON
Member of Congress
